Been a long time....but I'm back

Sorry to have been away for so long...no excuses, only that I have had my hands to the keyboard working night and day to complete my novel, Like There's No Tomorrow....and it's done!  Never was I so happy to type the words "The End."

The completed draft will be going to an executive type friend of mine who's up on all the grammar rules to read...just to be sure I haven't missed anything.  When she has finished, I will make any corrections she thinks needed, and then I'll be ready to market the novel.  Toes and fingers crossed that I will have this book under contract soon.

As an added note I wanted to share with you that I won Second Place in the Yosemite Romance Writer's Smooch Contest this year.  Of course everyone is hoping to take the top honor, but honestly I was pretty happy to concede that spot to a male who writes Sci-Fi.  In the contest entry we had to write a scene showing the first kiss.  If you are interested in seeing what my entry contained go to my website: sunnymariebaker.com and check out the excerpt for Finding Romance.

All right I promise not to stay away so long anymore, however, I will be traveling for 3 weeks beginning August 31.  Hope to be back home by Sept. 22nd.  If I can pick up an Internet signal at my destination, I'll blog a few words from there.

Until next time, my friends....Keep Writing,
Sunny Marie

Words of Wisdom

I ran across this in some inspirational readings I'd copied.  I have no idea who to credit for this...but it isn't me.  However, in re-reading it, it struck a cord with me in regards to my own writing process...and how I might find new perspective in that.  I hope, perhaps, it will speak to you in the same way.

Living Exploration-
Discovering What You Want Through Experience --

The road to knowing what you want is often paved with many moments of learning what you don't want.  This holds true in all areas of life, from work to love.  Knowing and accepting this can give us the courage to keep moving forward when we might otherwise paralyze ourselves with fear of making the wrong move.

All too often, we expect ourselves to know in advance what will or won't work.  But this would be like accepting an invitation with a new dance partner only if we are sure, before dancing with them, that we will want to dance with them forever.  We need to accept the invitation without knowing where it will lead us.  When we accept the invitation, what we are committing to is exploration.

It helps to remember that choices and decisions are not permanent or final actions.  They are just the first steps in an unfolding process of inquiry.  Many people go to school for one thing and end up in a completely different career path.  This doesn't mean that they made a mistake by studying English Lit and then becoming a nurse.  One thing leads to another in ways we can't always foresee.

Try to remain open and curious all along the way, asking questions.  How does this feel?  How could it be better?  What changes can be made to improve the situation?  With each modification, you move closer to creating exactly what you want.  But remember, sometimes we need to experience what we don't want to be able to determine what we do want.

And so it is!

It's a New Year!

2011 is behind us and we're off to a new year...2012.

I didn't do any blogging during the holidays.  Unusual for us, we had lots of company, so our days were busy with the grown children, their spouses and the grand kids.  It was sure a lot of fun, but we're grateful for our quiet to be restored.

I hope you've taken time, or will soon, to set goals for yourself regarding your writing for the coming months.  Personally, I have renewed my commitment to write "seriously" in 2012.  I have determined this is my job and I need to show up for work each day.

I've begun work on a new novel, called Finding Romance and my goal is to have it ready for submission by the end of the year...that may be a little over zealous, but you have to aim for some point of completion.  Meantime, I'm finishing up a novel I began last year entitled, Like There's No Tomorrow and I am striving to have it in the final draft by June this year and start marketing it in July.

I've become a member of a new critique group of "serious" romance writers.  We are called: W.R.O.T.E. (Writing Romance Over The Edge).  There are four of us and I'm sure we'll encourage one another to push toward the goals we've individually set.

If you haven't thought about your goals for 2012, please take some time now to do just that.  If you don't have a target to aim for, you'll find yourself far less motivated to finish the work.

I hope you all will have a joyous and prosperous 2012 and your publishing dreams will come true.

Keep Writing Ya'all,
Sunny Marie
